Sul fondo di una conca ammantata di boschi, quello di Vico è senz'altro uno dei laghi più belli del Lazio e dell'Italia centrale. Il valore naturalistico dell'area ha giustificato il recentissimo ampliamento della riserva che ha così più che raddoppiato la sua estensione, comprendendo adesso anche la porzione sud del lago – che ricade nel territorio di Ronciglione: quella a nord appartiene invece a Caprarola - e i versanti contigui.
