Istituita nel 2001, questa piccola Area Protetta comprende piccole zone umide caratterizzate dalla presenza di boschi riparali che un tempo, prima della bonifica, caratterizzavano la Piana di Fondi. Significativa è la presenza di specie molto rare quali il ceratofillo e la vallisneria, due piante acquatiche attualmente a rischio di estinzione. Assieme al vicino lago di Fondi, ora compreso nel Parco Regionale dei monti Ausoni, ospita una sorprendente biodiversità.
